Digital Health eTips

Tips and advice on EMRs and digital health tools you can use NOW

From the CMO's Desk

Minding Our Digital Wellness

Digital health technology is a powerful tool. The use of electronic medical records (EMRs), apps, virtual health, and artificial intelligence (AI) has helped to improve the way we deliver health care. Those of you who attended last month's OMD Educates: Digital Health Conference heard about how these tools can help you in your practice. Yet even as a "techie" fan, I'm mindful of the potential for information overload. It's crucial that as physicians, we mind our own digital wellness.

We want to hear from you as we plan next year’s OMD Educates: Digital Health Conference. Tell us the topics that interest you and your preference for conference location and days of the week.

i4C Dashboard Retired on Sept. 30

The OMD Insights for Care (i4C) Dashboard, a tool integrated with several certified EMRs, was retired, effective September 30, 2024, in alignment with Ontario Health's broader provincial focus on other clinical tools. Many clinicians rely on the i4C Dashboard, which is why OMD developed the PSS Clinic Toolkit for TELUS EMR users as an alternative, with self-serve support materials. If you use another OMD-certified EMR or need additional support for the PSS Clinic Toolkit, please contact the OMD Advisory Service at support@ontariomd.com for assistance with how to get insights from your EMR data.

HRM Improvements

HRM Preference Management Expansion – Participant Recruitment

OMD is expanding access to "preference management" – the ability to influence what is delivered through HRM based on recipient preferences – and is looking for an additional 250 clinician participants. At this time, HRM Preference Management is limited to eNotifications; the lessons learned from this preliminary effort will help us assess the impact of opting out of other report types in the future.

All participants, including those who signed up for the original trial, will have periodic opportunities to opt back in starting winter 2025. As additional report types are included in the scope of preference management, this group will also be invited to take advantage of that.

Interested in participating in this initiative? Complete the form by November 21 to opt out of receiving HRM eNotifications. Visit the OMD HRM Preference Management page for more information.

Technology Service Update

The technology service used to deliver certain HRM reports from community-based specialty clinics is being updated. OMD and Ontario Health continue to work with these non-hospital service providers delivering reports through HRM to ensure a smooth transition from the current infrastructure to the new technology. A limited number of non-hospital HRM sending facilities will face interruptions in their ability to deliver reports through HRM after October 31, 2024, and this may result in a temporary increase in faxed reports. Please feel to contact support@ontariomd.com with any questions or concerns.
